With Twilight Fire, my entire focus was on capturing the intense, momentary burst of light right as the sun dips below the horizon. I leaned heavily into the Impressionistic style here, using a lot of impasto and thick, layered strokes. I wanted the texture to be as expressive as the color so you don't just see the light reflected on the water, you can almost feel the shimmer and movement of the water's surface.
The composition centers on the dramatic contrast between the brilliant, fiery core of the sunset (the oranges, yellows, and reds) and the deep, grounding blues and blacks of the silhouetted forest and foreground. For me, this moment is incredibly symbolic. It represents the powerful transition between day and night, the chaos of color giving way to peace. The dark silhouette of the trees and the shoreline serves as a contrast, emphasizing the brilliance of the light and suggesting the depth and mystery of the land.
This piece, in all its vibrancy and texture, reflects the complexity of our experiences moments of intense emotional fire reflected against a calm, steady backdrop. It’s a reminder that even the most fleeting moments in nature are full of spectacular energy and beauty.
Through Twilight Fire, I invite you to step into this scene and experience that raw energy and reflection, finding both drama and profound peace in the colors of the closing day.
